Reiki is a Japanese word meaning 'universal energy'. Reiki is a form of energy therapy which uses vibrational energy to balance a person, promoting well-being and good health.
Although Reiki is a spiritual practice, it is not ascribed to ay particular religion so can be practiced by all.
Usually the client is lying down, however it can be done seated or even standing. The client remains clothed throughout.
The Reiki energy flows from the practitioners hands into the client. The practitioner places their hands in a series of hand positions on the body on or near the client. These commonly include positions around the head and shoulders, stomach and feet but can use more specific positions depending on the clients needs. Each position is held for 3 to 5 minutes depending on how much Reiki the client needs at each position. The overall treatment lasts approximately 50 minutes.
The experience during a Reiki treatment varies for each individual. However, feelings of deep relaxation are usually felt by all. In addition, many feel a great glowing radiance that flows through and surrounds them. As the Reiki energy encourages one to let go of all tension, anxiety, fear or other negative feelings. A state of peace and well-being is experienced. It is normal for people to drift off to sleep. Ultimately, one feels refreshed with a more positive, balanced outlook by the end of the treatment.
Mostly clients feel relaxed and uplifted by the treatment. However, sometimes a person will have what is known as a ‘healing crisis’. As a persons vibration goes up, toxins that have been stored in the body will be released into the blood stream to be filtered by the liver and kidneys and removed from the system. Sometimes this healing crisis can cause a person to get a headache, stomachache or feel weak. In this case we recommend them to drink more water, eat lighter meals and get more rest. The body is cleansing as part of the healing process, so this is a good sign.
